When I first learned that this company sold child carriers that could be mounted in the front of the bike, I was intrigued. I saw someone near the local playground riding with their child on one, but it was the Kangaroo Classic version. Shortly after I looked WeeRide up and contacted them after I realized this would be PERFECT for our family. It had been almost three years since we've gone biking and this gave us the option to get out and see the world on two wheels again!!
Yes, I know there are bike trailers out there, and back seat carriers but I was never a big fan of the ones I came acrossed in person. WeeRide has been wonderful to talk to and is fairly quick to respond to any inquiries I have emailed them about.
They sent me the WeeRide Kangaroo Deluxe Center Mounted Carrier. When it came, it came in a box with most of the pieces uninstalled. I was happy that I didn't need any additional tools, though, to put this thing on the bike. We decided to put it on my husbands bike and later buy the additional support bar so the seat can be moved to either bike. I love that we have that option!!!! WeeRide offers the extra accessories needed so your child can ride with either parent. Genius.
The installation process didn't take long at all. I just had to fit the head rest into the slot of the bike seat and connected it to the mounting bar once it was on the bike. I will admit that getting the mounting bar to stay in place while trying to screw it on with one set of hands was a little bit of a pain but definitely doable. It took me longer than I would have liked to get it on but, really, it wasn't very hard. It just seemed time consuming because I had to be careful with my movements and slow so the bar wouldn't fall while I tried to get the first end installed onto the bike. At first, it looked like the neck of the bike was too short and the break cords would be in the way, but it worked and I was relieved. It was such an excitement to receive this carrier, that I didn't want to be disappointed with it not fitting. Thankfully, that wasn't the case. It fits perfectly and within 30-40 minutes we were out for our very first bike ride as a family!!
Since installing the WeeRide carrier, we have had so many fun adventures that we wouldn't have had without it. We have rode bikes all around town, on Assateague island, around a local lake, and many more places.
I was worried that my daughter would be too tall for it. She is a little tall for her age and I didn't think it looked too promising once I got it on the bike. To my surprise, she fit like a charm. This will probably be the only season we will get out of it but we've been making the most of it. My daughter says it's comfy and she never complains. Almost every day she is asking to go out on a bike ride because she loves it so much.
I love that this carrier is designed to be in the front of the bike. This way your child can have the same view as you do, you can carry on a conversation with them and they are save between your arms. It may seem like it would get in the way of your legs and pedaling but you have just enough room where it's not in the way. Sometimes if my husband makes a hard turn the handle bars will dig in her legs, but now we are cautious and try to make lighter turns. The seat is covered with a pad and she is buckled in with a harness. There is a headrest that's included that allows for weary heads to lay down and rest if needed. My daughter has really taken advantage of this feature. It's also covered with a pad and seems comfy. When she does fall asleep on it, my husband has to hold his arms up to keep her head from rolling off to the side, but I can't complain when she can't rest at all on any other carrier I've ever seen!!! This allows for us to stay out a tad bit longer and not force her to stay up and throw tantrums if we aren't quite home yet. "Rest your head my dear one.. We will be home soon."
I also like that the foot rest is able to be adjusted to different leg lengths. When it came we had to make sure it was extended to the last option there was because of my daughters long legs. They are bent a little more than they probably should be but she seems comfy and we are never out very long.
