I find that this is helpful for my daughter when she has a cough. It helps put the moisture in the air. Our house is so dry that this is something we really needed. It's good to use when you have symptoms such as: coughs, nasal congestion, colds, sore throat, dry skin, etc...
I love that it is easy to use! Just take the reservoir off of the base, unscrew the cap, fill it with water, screw it back on and place on base! Its recommended to use the medium setting on the dial but you can make it go low and high as well. I do find that medium puts a good amount out so it's not necessary to really put it any higher. (you can find the video HERE for the product demo)
Here are some tips I pulled from Crane USA's site to help you learn a little more about this humidifier.
Adorable Humidifiers
Tips
- Up, up and away! Adjust mist from high to low so it spouts up in the air, not down to the ground
- Clean and cool: the only kind of water you’ll need
- NO adding oils, medication, hot water or salt – simply let the mist work its magic
- Place on a waterproof surface about 3 feet off the ground
- Keep humidifiers out of the corner and away from the walls
- The optimal humidity level is 40-50%, keeping you comfortable 100% of the time
- Share the love (and stave off condensation, frost, and fog) by leaving the door partly open
- Forget filters forever, but if you see white dust, try distilled water or a Crane Demineralization Filter
- Use a little TLC and carry the water tank with two hands, not by the handle
- Getting squeaky clean is easy with a few capfuls of white vinegar and a half tank of warm water
- Clean your water basin with the same solution each week, too
- Run your humidifier all the time for year-round benefits
Below I will share with you some Pros and Cons that I experienced with Crane USA's Adorable Humidifier, Cocoa the dog.
Pros
-Cool mist (I don't have to worry about my daughter getting burned)
-Auto shut off when it's empty (This is huge for me, I like to know that if I forget about it, it will just shut off on it's own)
-It is see through, so it does help monitor how much water is left inside
-Adorable kid friendly design
-Low to high setting (I can set the output mist to my liking)
-There is an option to use a filter for hardwater use, but it isn't required (I love that it isn't)
-Holds up to 1 Gallon of water (The humidifier will run up to 24 hours on this)
-It is VERY quiet.
-It is easy to fill
-It is easy to clean
-There is a 1 year warranty
-The mist spits out nicely and evenly (The flow is good)
-There are many designs to choose from (Kid friendly and Adult friendly) You can see them HERE for all of their humidifiers.
Cons
-There is no handle to carry the humidifier after it's been filled (Must walk slowly and carefully holding it from the bottom to place it where you want it to go)
-My husband said he gets frustrated when he goes to pick it up to move it and it comes apart (He is used to our old one piece humidifier that you could just pick up from the tank and move-he suggested handles of some sort that would allow you to carry it after the pieces are locked in place)
-No "fill water to here" line (It was very confusing to me where to fill the water up to, so after looking online, I used other customer suggestions to fill it up to 1 inch below the top). Crane USA did explain to me that they don't have a "fill line" on the tank because it depends on how long you want to run your humidifier, how big the room is, etc.. They explained that there is no wrong amount on how much you can fill it.
-Cleaning instructions weren't very instructional (They told me what to use but not how. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to put the vinegar and water in and swish then dump or what. After watching the video above, I learned that it needs to sit for a half hour before dumping it. Which does make sense, but it just wasn't clear). Crane USA explained to me that they are aware of this and are working on redoing their manuals so they are more clear.
-Have to find a pan or silicone mat to place underneath it (No towel can be used because the fan/vent is on the bottom)---> This was quickly resolved as we used a silicone baking mat underneath it and it works just fine
When "Cocoa the Dog" isn't being used, he still has to be visible because my daughter loves to go up to him to talk to him and pet him. She loves it that he can be with us all day everyday!
She tells me she likes him because he is there to make her feel better when she is sick.
There are times when I have to put it on downstairs when she is sick but then if I unplug it and carry it carefully from the bottom, I can take it upstairs to her bedroom and it's not heavy at all.
